Verdict: Fans dismayed with Wolves no-show

Our fans are left dismayed with a hugely disappointed 3-1 defeat at Derby County.

What's your verdict on the match? That was hard to sum up. It was also hard to watch and even worse it had loyal fans of many years standing questioning if they should even bother again.

Wolves were to a man pathetic with Coady Saville and Captain Crisp Packet putting in the type of performances that make you hate modern football.

Totally inept and uncaring with the footballing ability to match. I have tried to keep my glass half full but it's nigh on impossible to comprehend the workings of the manager when fielding this type of team and tactics.

Yet again just one up front and yet again an appalling failure of desire and basic ability.

Cavalcarthorse saw sense and got himself sent off and not many of the utterly magnificent 3,100 away following who sang themselves hoarse would miss the overrated failure if he never appeared again.

The rot must run deep at the club and Thelwell as well as Lambert must be worried about whether they will still be defrauding the Wolves faithful of several grand a week each for much longer.

Make no mistake the natives are very unhappy and a major overhaul is long overdue. In this day of straw polls and exit interviews it would be interesting to see how many of the recent squads chosen by Lambert and including him would be chosen to stay at the club.

A quick poll would indicate none with the possible exception of Bodvarsson and the kids. This game was embarrassing and any side better than a mid-table end-of-season run out opponent could have beaten us by a cricket score.

We have run out of plasters to paper over the cracks and this needs addressing now before we start another fruitless campaign in August.

Who played well - and who didn't impress? Man of the match is easy - the fans.

Of the players a score of 10 would be given but that is an aggregate not an individual mark. Tactically clueless and no ability. Cricket seems a far better option!

What's your verdict on the match? Wolves' wonderful, exciting and enjoyable end to the season...in the away end. Certainly not on the pitch though.

It was player bingo for the team selection and back to one of our more familiar formations.

Derby's attacking formation resulted with more players in the final third than we could handle, playing on full-backs Saville and Coady and pinning us down in the first quarter of hour second half to finish us off.

Who played well - and who didn't impress? Burgoyne - under early pressure but some handy saves before we went behind.

Saville and Coady - played out of position yet again and forced into mistakes. Hause and Williamson centre half pairing under the cosh at times.

Saiss - very good player but showing little form lately.

Edwards - either player of the year for some Wolves fans, or shouldn't even be in the team listening to others. Always egging the team on, often foregoing his own role.

Evans - the referee allowed him to play his best game unlike at Bristol when he subsequently lost his placed in the team.

Dicko - exceptional effort and his persistence paid off in setting up Marshall's goal.

Cavaleiro - silly boy in getting sent off but he hadn't been in the game anyway, struck me as frustration.

Enobakhare - back in the squad and joining as substitute, found lots of space and looking good, very competitive, part of our future?

Man of the match without doubt, Wolves' long suffering away support. Proud to be part of it all season and especially today. Particularly noisy end to the travelling part of the campaign. #coyw

What's your verdict on the match? Another away day at Derby and another game where we capitulate before the 35-minute mark.

Cav's headbutt was stupid and petulant and probably the result of being overlooked for George Saville over the last few months. That pretty much stopped any possibility of us getting back into the game, but by then Derby had already ripped through our lightweight defence on numerous occasions.

It really looked like men against boys for the first 30 minutes. Our midfield was non-existent allowing Derby the freedom of Pride Park and our two full backs-cum centre midfielders were badly exposed by two proper wingers in Ince and Russell.

We had no answer to their running off the ball, the quick interchanges and fluidity, a glowing testament to the work Rowett has done there in a relatively short space of time. You can actually see a style of play with them, a style of play that sadly I think Lambert is still looking for.

Saiss, like so many Wolves players, always performs better when he's not actually on the pitch. The Moroccan has obviously got a good range of passing, but he doesn't show it enough and doesn't take hold of games in the same way that the likes of Sidwell do. He also doesn't track his runners, as was clearly evident with their second goal yesterday.

The only players to come out of it with any credit were Marshall, Dicko and Bright, the latter making a welcome return with some good attacking play late on. In particular, it was refreshing to see a Wolves player that actually looked comfortable on the ball and not like he was trying to control one of Kim Jong-un's nuclear missiles.

Lambert and Shi have a very important three months coming up. They need to make some quality additions and they need to get rid of the dross (on and off the pitch).

If more than 70 per cent of that starting XI are in contention come the first week of August, they will have failed!

Who played well - and who didn't impress? The fans, who delivered superb backing throughout with a fair few 'old' songs given a good airing.

A great day out spoilt only by the 90 minutes we had to endure between 3pm and 5pm. If you just went for the football, Wolves wouldn't be your team.
