Wolves 0 Huddersfield 1 - player ratings

Wolves correspondent Tim Spiers rates the players after a 1-0 defeat to Huddersfield.

Published

Harry Burgoyne

Apologised to his team mates for allowing Isaiah Brown's shot slip into the corner. Should have saved it but it was an honest mistake and Burgoyne could be forgiven for being a bit rusty after coming into the side just before kick off for his first appearance since January. Just one other save to make when he blocked from Quaner. 5/10

Dominic Iorfa

A very tentative return after six weeks out the team. Struggled against Van La Parra in the first half and some of his touches highlighted his fragile confidence. Very interesting to see what happens to him this summer. Huge talent but he hasn't showed it this season. A loan spell and regular football may the answer. 4/10

Danny Batth

Got in a muddle early on in the build up to Nahki Well's good early chance. Generally fine thereafter. 6/10

Richard Stearman

Reunited with his old centre back partner and he had another decent game in what was his third consecutive appearance. Highlight was when he lifted the ball over the top of Jonathan Hogg when breaking into midfield. A bit haphazard at times but overall it's been a solid return to the side as he bids to earn a permanent move. 6/10

Silvio

A shock start after six months out in the cold. Struggled in the first half as he blew away the cobwebs but grew into the game and showed some class after the break. Comfortable in possession, glided forward on a couple of occasions including in the build-up to Edwards' big chance. With Doherty injured he could get another couple of games now to finally show what he can do. Out of contract in the summer (Wolves do have the option of a second season) so he's another playing for his future. 7/10

Jack Price

Like Iorfa, not seen for six weeks. And like Iorfa he didn't take his chance. Difficult to come in and play with fluency but he'll have wanted to make more of a mark on the game. Gap between him and Edwards was often too great, which didn't help. Neither did the movement of those around around him. 5/10

David Edwards

Wolves' three biggest chances fell to Edwards but he couldn't add to his tally of 10 goals this season. Two headers in the first half, both saved by the keeper, and then he should have turned in from close range in the second half but hit the post. Lost possession in the build-up to Huddersfield's winner on what was a night to forget. He, Price and Gibbs-White were overrun in midfield too often. 5/10

Andreas Weimann

Shunted out to the right again and he had little impact in the first half. Went up front after the break but it was a similar story. As with the team in general his work rate and effort could not be faulted, but his end product could. 5/10

Morgan Gibbs-White

Fairly anonymous in the first half but improved when moving to the right wing after the break. Showed some lovely touches and looked to make things happen. Withdrawn fairly early, just when he was getting going. 6/10

Ben Marshall

After a big dip against Blackburn he returned to form here. Some wonderful crossfield passes and he was Wolves' best bet for some creativity and inspiration. Moved to left back in the closing stages when Silvio ran out of steam. 7/10

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson

Service to him was appalling but couldn't get the better of Huddersfield's back two. Too many passes bounced off him. The second striker to be withdrawn at half time in four days. His wait for a Molineux goal continues - that's 24 games and counting. 4/10

Substitutes

Joe Mason (for Bodvarsson, 85)

Good to see him back after three months out. Could have scored with one of his first touches when he turned and fired wide. Thereafter he didn't see much of the ball. 5/10

Jordan Graham (for Gibbs-White, 62)

The long 15-month wait is finally over. His introduction was undoubtedly the highlight of the night and he looked bright and breezy in his half-hour cameo. Produced a couple of decent crosses and the familiar stepovers were there too. Almost tried too hard at times. Could be a huge asset next season when he gets up to speed. 6/10

Nouha Dicko (For Silvio, 85)

Only five minutes but the game was gone. N/A

Subs not used: Brown, Hause, Saville, Coady.
