We spoke with Leigh Sanders, digital journalist and Cardiff City know it all, to get the inside track on the full back.

See what he had to say here...

How would you best describe Peltier as a player?

He's very much an old-style defensive full-back.

He does come across the halfway line, but without venturing towards the opposition penalty area too often.

Solid and dependable, he has more good games than bad, and was actually one of Cardiff's best players in the second half of the doomed season last year in the Premier League.

What are his strengths and weaknesses?

One strength is definitely his positioning. As he doesn't like to bomb forward he isn't caught out position many times, and despite not being the biggest his positional sense sees him win more headers than he should.

His passing game is not the best however, and a recent stat released about passing accuracy for defenders in the Championship this season had Pelter rated as the fifth worst.

But given his team-mates Sean Morrison, Curtis Nelson and Aden Flint were the three worst, that actually makes him one of Cardiff's best passers out of the back this year...

Why do you think Cardiff have agreed to let him go?

Neil Harris said as soon as he took the job that he wanted to change Cardiff's style of play and move away from the game plan of predecessor Neil Warnock.

Given it's Warnock's squad, he hasn't been able to do much of that due to the players at his disposal. But one tweak has been to try and involve the full-backs more in the attacking phases.

Former Villa man Joe Bennett on the left flank is already well equipped for that, but not so much Peltier. So he has lost his place recently with the return to fitness of the more attack-minded Welsh international Jazz Richards.

Given he is 33 and nearing the end of a deal, Harris obviously sees him as a cashable asset, although I can't imagine Albion would pay too much.

Do you think he'll fit in at Albion?

He's a great pro and has been fairly solid since an initially tough period settling in under Russell Slade. Slade's remit following the previous Premier League relegation and near-financial disaster that was Ole Gunner Solskjaer was to trim the wage bill and make do.

So he sold fan favourite full-back John brayford for a good fee to Sheffield United and brought in the cut-price peltier.

At first the fans weren't impressed, but recently some have been tweeting the club account asking them to give him a 'lifetime contract', so he's won them over.

You'd imagine he will help the younger Albion players through games, and while he is usually pretty calm on the pitch you do see him firing off rockets at team-mates when he feels they deserve it.

What's his injury history like, is he someone who is often on the treatment table?

He's not done too badly, with one shoulder injury making him miss a couple of months in 2018/19 the only real absence during his time at the club.

Do you think he could be the man to help get Albion to the Premier League this season?

If Slaven Bilic is looking for somebody to shore things up in tight games and maybe get them through some tough away fixtures then yes.

If he is looking for a full-back to play as near enough an extra winger like that first half of the 4-2 win at the Hawthorns earlier this season when Albion dominated, then probably no.

Maybe at 33 years old it's not the best time to uproot yourself and move on. But he has served Cardiff well and I hope if he does go he makes a success of it and grabs another medal for himself.
