West Brom set for busy end to transfer window
Albion are closing in on a loan move for Sheffield United’s Callum Robinson – with the winger understood to have been at the club’s training ground today.
Slaven Bilic would like to bring in two attacking players before the transfer window closes, one of which looks likely to be Robinson.
The Baggies are braced for a frantic few days with arrivals and departures both possible before Friday’s 11pm deadline.
The loan move for Robinson gives Bilic room to sign another forward permanently.
Croatian international Mislav Orsic is a player Bilic has confirmed his interest in.
Albion are confident of securing the 27-year-old’s signature if the boss gives them the green light.
But he is also keen on a deal for another forward whose identity remains unknown – with a number of factors still at play as to whether Albion go for Orsic or the mystery man.
As well as a couple of arrivals, Albion could sell Nathan Ferguson this month with Crystal Palace poised to make a bid.
The 19-year-old is out of contract in the summer and has so far refused to sign a new five-year deal that’s on the table.
A host of clubs on the continent are believed to want to sign Ferguson in the summer for a minimal compensation fee.
But Palace are hoping to convince the youngster to move to London and are willing to steal a march on their rivals by tabling a bid in the region of £4million.
Albion would still like Ferguson to stay.
But they would rather sell him this week than see him leave for a nominal fee in the summer.
Able to play on both the left and right wing, Robinson would bolster Albion’s attacking options with Grady Diangana currently sidelined with a back/hamstring injury.
The 24-year-old, who came through the youth ranks at Villa, scored 13 times for Preston North End in the Championship last season.
Robinson had been a target for Albion in the summer before his move to Bramall Lane.
But the lure of playing in the Premier League proved to be too strong for the forward who went on to sign a four-year-deal with the Blades.
He has featured 19 times this season.
But has recently found himself behind the likes of Lys Mousset, David McGoldrick, Oli McBurnie and Billy Sharp in the pecking order at Bramall Lane.
