But they still comfortably outplayed West Ham to clinch a place in the FA Cup fifth round.

Here we rate the players following a very impressive display at the London Stadium.

Jonathan Bond

The keeper didn't put a foot wrong but it's hard to score him higher than a six simply because he had so little to do. Bond comfortably dealt with West Ham's only shot on target – which arrived in the 90th minute. His distribution was also solid. 6

Dara O’Shea

Traditionally a centre-back, O'Shea shone in the previous round at right-back and did so again here with another wonderfully composed display. The youngster impressed defensively, was strong in the air throughout and also offered an outlet going forward. A performance which showed just why Albion were so keen to tie him down to a long-term deal. 8

Ahmed Hegazi

Another commanding display from the Egyptian who is now getting back to his best following ankle surgery in the summer. Hegazi's bullied West Ham's expensive front two. He also made one outstanding – potentially goal saving tackle – after Semi Ajayi cheaply conceded possession. 8

Semi Ajayi

The Nigerian international is a major reason why Albion are top of the Championship. But there is no doubt he has suffered a dip in form. Ajayi was sloppy in possession with one lose ball putting his team – and Hegazi – in huge trouble before the Egyptian bailed him out. His sending off, because of two-yellow cards, reinvigorated West Ham and gave them an undeserved shot at snatching a draw. 5

Conor Townsend

Netted his first Albion goal with an absolute peach of a strike after nine minutes. But that just capped what was another excellent display from the full-back who kept Manuel Lanzini in check throughout and also impressed going forward. 8

Gareth Barry

Declan Rice may be the rising star when it comes to holding midfielders, but he couldn't lay a glove on Barry here. The 38-year-old's reading of the game was absolutely exceptional – with the midfielder making one crucial block in particular from an Aaron Cresswell cross. The former Man City man also used the ball intelligently throughout. Fantastic. 8

Chris Brunt

Along with Barry, the Northern Irishman ensured Albion controlled the midfield simply by moving the ball well and always being in the right place at the right time. The fact he has made just five Championship appearances this season shows just how strong Albion's squad is. 7

Matt Phillips

The winger is currently enduring a spell where he is impressing in bursts during games but not doing it over the course of 90 minutes. That continued here. But Phillips worked hard throughout and was subbed by Bilic due to the boss having one eye on Cardiff. 6

Filip Krovinovic

Against Premier League opposition, Krovinovic was the best player on the pitch. The Croatian made a number of driving runs with the ball and also dictated the tempo of the game with his intelligent passing. With Matheus Pereira suspended, this performance could not have come at a better time. Man of the Match. 9

Kyle Edwards

Another who really seized his chance to impress, Edwards was a bag of tricks on the left-wing. His pace and skill was often too much for the vastly experienced Pablo Zabaleta. He also went very close to scoring in the opening few minutes with a fierce strike from the edge of the box. 8

Charlie Austin

Will probably feel he should have got on the score sheet with two good headed chances, but Austin worked his socks off for the team – with that work rate ensuring Albion defended from the front. Looked a lot more dangerous than West Ham's strikers who cost considerably more money. 7

Subs

Rayhaan Tulloch (for Phillips 62)

A lovely cameo from the youngster who looked very comfortable on the ball. Had to show discipline after Ajayi’s red card but stuck to the job at hand even if that limited his chance to impress. 6

Kenneth Zohore (for Austin 70)

Held the ball up well and won some important free-kicks when Albion were looking to wind down the clock. 6

Kyle Bartley (for Krovinovic 75)

Helped make Albion’s defence even tighter following Ajayi’s dismissal. 6

Not used: Al-Habsi, Livermore, Harper, Willock.
