Romaine Sawyers: I’d pay to watch West Brom stars

Albion's Romaine Sawyers admits he would happily pay to watch team mates Matheus Pereira and Grady Diangana in action.

But the 27-year-old believes he already has the best seat in the house – by playing just behind them in the Baggies' midfield.

Both Pereira and Diangana have made excellent starts to their Albion careers after being snapped up on loan from Sporting Lisbon and West Ham respectively.

Between them the duo have scored six goals and registered seven assists in 11 league games. And Sawyers admits he's thoroughly enjoying playing with both of them.

"I'd definitely pay to watch them," the former Brentford midfielder said.

"For the fans I can only imagine what it is like, I'm playing behind them and I'm like 'wow', it's a joy to watch.

"I get to watch it from the first row, it's amazing.

"Grady's goal against Cardiff, I was thinking 'why are you shooting?'

"And then it flies into the back of the net.

"They’re young boys plying their trade in a difficult league and they’re making it look easy.

"We’re glad they’re on our side and not against us.

"Whoever identified them, they’ve come in and done what was expected of them and long may it continue both here and beyond.

"They’re going to have great careers and hopefully they can do the business here and push on."

Albion travel to take on Middlesbrough on Saturday sitting top of the Championship – with their early season form now making them one of the favourites to win automatic promotion.

But while their league position may make them a scalp for opposition teams, Sawyers believes that is just something he and his team mates have to deal with.

"We’re a big club – whether we’re top or sixth for everyone who comes to West Brom it’s almost like a final," the midfielder added.

"We’ve got a lot of plaudits this year because we’re doing well.

"Being in the opposition dressing room when you come to West Brom you know you’re in for a tough game.

"We’ve got to deal with that pressure.

"We’re all good players and we believe in ourselves, from the gaffer all the way down.

"Whether we’re top, third, second we’ve just got to let people know they’re in a game. It’s great to be where we are and we need to keep pushing on."
