James Morrison: Teams will be scared of West Brom's A game

James Morrison believes an on-song Albion will strike fear into any opposition this season.

The Baggies are the highest scoring side in the top four divisions with 37 goals, more than they managed to score in two of their last three seasons.

Although Morrison admitted ahead of an upcoming game with rock-bottom Ipswich Town no team should be taken for granted, he believes the Baggies are one of the scariest prospects in the Championship.

“This league is strange,” said the 32-year-old, who has started the last three matches. “Anyone can beat anyone and that’s the excitement.

“Anyone who looks at us, they’ll be scared of us when we are on our ‘A’ game.

“We’ve got really strong runners and playing on the break we can be really scary.”

This is Morrison’s 12th season at The Hawthorns and he has already been promoted out of the Championship twice with the Baggies.

In his first year, Albion were crowned champions scoring 19 goals more than any other team, and the midfielder sees parallels between that team and the current crop.

“I always go back to the first season we were here,” he said. “We had four good strikers and they all chipped in with lots of goals and that was one of the reasons why we got promoted in the end.

“We’ve got similarities here in the current squad and it is important they share the load.

“The four then were Ishmail Miller, Kevin Phillips, Roman Bednar and Luke Moore, who came in towards the end. Craig Beattie popped up as well with a few last minute goals.

“These lads now are also all capable of scoring goals. We’ve got 37 goals in 17 games.

“It’s a great stat and we’ve got to keep going and when the chances come in this league you’ve got to take them.”

Morrison impressed last week during Albion’s eye-catching 4-1 win over Leeds that moved them back into the play-off spots, and he believes it shows the spirit in the squad.

“It just shows we are fighting back to get back into the Premier League,” he said. “It is important we get on a run now to stay with the pack.”
