Kyle Bartley: 'Massive' result proves West Brom can grind out wins

Kyle Bartley believes Albion's win over Millwall is 'massive' - because it proves they can win in more than one way.

The Baggies had to grind out their 2-0 win over the Lions on Saturday after being frustrated for an hour by Neil Harris's organised side.

And defender Bartley, who was pleased to keep a first clean sheet in the league, reckons it was a reassuringly routine victory after several goalfests.

"We showed we can win more than one way and I think that is massive," said the 27-year-old. "The season is a very long season and every game will be different.

"Depending on how the opposition come up against us and their game plan, will determine how we go about it.

"Some games will be a little bit frustrating by the way they set up or we can’t quite break them down.

"But that’s when it comes down to being resilient and making sure we don’t concede and sooner or later the forwards will get a chance.

"With the fire-power we’ve got, there won’t be many games where we won’t score goals."

Albion have struck four or more goals on three occasions already this season, but Bartley admits you can't win every game with champagne football.

"You can’t, look at Manchester City last season," said Bartley. "Even though they’ve got their style, sometimes they had to adapt depending on the game and that’s what we will have to do this season as well.

"You will take a 1-0 as much as a 5-0 sometimes, especially as a defender. I’m sure the gaffer will agree with me in that sometimes these games where you grind out a result are much more pleasing than the 5-0, 6-0s."

And Bartley paid tribute to Darren Moore, who has taken Albion up into third place and one point behind the leaders after back-to-back home wins.

"He deserves a massive amount of credit, he is a brilliant character and he is a very calming influence in the dressing room and around the training ground," said the summer signing.

"He has brought fresh ideas to the table and they are starting to pay off. The most important thing about that is no-one panicked and that comes from the manager.

"He knew and we knew it was going to take a little bit of time for players to get used to each other and the system. Everyone has full faith in him."

And Bartley echoed his head coach when he thanked the fans for being patient.

"I thought they were excellent," he said. "It’s very easy to get frustrated with games like that and you don’t quite know where the goal is going to come from.

"But we had faith in the dressing room at half-time and we knew if we kept going, the chances would come and thanks for the fans for sticking with us."
