Having scored 13 goals in their previous three league games at home, the Baggies had to be patient against Neil Harris's men.

It wasn't until the 68th minute that Dwight Gayle broke the deadlock with a poacher's finish from close range.

Eight minutes later Kieran Gibbs wrapped up the game with a driven shot into the bottom far corner.

There weren't as many fireworks as recent weeks, but the Baggies kept their first clean sheet in the league this season, and moved into third place.

"I'm pleased with the type of game it was because it shows what is sometimes needed in the Championship," said Moore.

"You're not always going to get free-flowing games with loads of goals.

"Neil is a good manager and he will have felt they nearly came off with it today.

"The boys kept probing, we found a goal thanks to Dwight's goalscoring prowess and it opens up the game. Kieran Gibbs gets the second and we manage to clinch a win.

"Millwall were very strong and resolute in their defending, their gameplan was to stop and nullify us.

"We found a way in the end to get through their rearguard."

The Baggies boss was particularly pleased with how patient the supporters were, and he hopes the victory has given fans more confidence in his side.

"Teams will make it very difficult for us here and there's more games [like that] to come," he said.

"I'm glad the fans stuck with us and in the end they got their just rewards.

"As well as being an education for the players it was an education for the fans.

"We've all got to work, the staff are working, the players are working, the stewards are working, and ther supporters are working.

"They've got to make this place into a cauldron of noise, and what that does is get the players over the line. It gives them an extra 5 per cent.

"That today was a great message to everybody connected to the club."

Albion kept their first clean sheet of the season in the Championship, and apart from one nervy moment in the first half when Craig Dawson cleared a Jed Wallace lob off the line, Sam Johnstone's goal rarely looked threatening.

"That's the icing on the cake," said Moore. "With the games every two or three days you only have small parts in training to pinch methods.

"We're working in and out of possession, on the transition, shapes and formations.

"It's so pleasing as a head coach that you see them doing the things we're asking them to do.

"I'm happy with the clean sheet, we'll try and build on it."

Matt Phillips was forced off shortly after the hour mark and was replaced by Tyrone Mears, whose cross led to Gibbs's goal.

"I think it's fatigue really," said Moore. "The games we've had. It's too early for me to say for sure though, we'll assess him over next 24 hours."
