Sam Johnstone saved a penalty. (AMA)

SAM JOHNSTONE

Has probably never played so well and conceded three goals. Saved a penalty, and pulled off a string of other saves, varying in difficulty, to keep Norwich out. Nothing he could realistically do about any of the three goals that went in from close range. 8/10

ALLAN NYOM

His mistake on the byline when he lost possession to Onel Hernandez handed Norwich an unnecessary route back into the game at 3-1, and the Canaries targeted his flank. Albion are looking for a right-back in the loan market to compete with him. 4/10

AHMED HEGAZI

Set up Robson-Kanu’s goal with a header back across goal, but was defensively suspect. Rhodes got in behind him far too easily in the first half and he looked sluggish at times in the second period. Grant Hanley’s header was too easy. 5/10

KYLE BARTLEY

Looked slightly more reliable than his centre-back partner but that is still a problem area for Albion. Hopefully his relationships with his new team-mates will continue to develop, because the Baggies won’t always be able to score four goals. 6/10

KIERAN GIBBS

The left-back actually looked much better in the first half, and even had a deflected shot saved by Krul. But he was forced off at half-time with a knock and could be vulnerable to losing his place after a promising debut from Conor Townsend. 6/10

MATT PHILLIPS

The winger may not have been man of the match this time, but he continued his fine start to the season. Laid on the assist for Barnes’s goal after chasing down a Bartley clearance that nobody else bothered with. One of Albion’s exciting front four. 7/10

CHRIS BRUNT

The skipper owes Johnstone a pint after the keeper saved a penalty he gave away in the first half, although he was left isolated against Hernandez. Struggled in the first half and misplaced passes. Improved after the break though, like the rest of the team. 5/10

JAKE LIVERMORE

Lost possession in the build-up to Norwich’s penalty but carried the ball forward well at times. Also one who improved after the break, when he started to have a greater influence over the midfield battle. Needs a No.10 ahead of him, or a striker to drop into the hole. 6/10

HARVEY BARNES

Whipped a first-time shot into the bottom corner with his right foot to round off Albion’s best move of the match. Sometimes needs reminding of his defensive duties, but he’s a mercurial talent capable of producing moments of brilliance. 7/10

JAY RODRIGUEZ

Nearly scored a hat-trick, and while he may owe a lot to Krul for his second, they all count. His passionate performance, two days after the window shut, was typical of a man who’s renowned for his professionalism. Albion are lucky to have him. 8/10

DWIGHT GAYLE

An encouragingly sharp and selfless performance on full debut that deserved a goal. Constantly threatened to run in behind, he just needs the service. Killed a high ball to win a penalty and nicked possession to set up Rodriguez's second. 8/10

Substitutes

Conor Townsend (Gibbs 45)

Looked assured at left-back and will provide some competition. 6/10

Hal Robson-Kanu (Barnes 66)

Clinically swept home Albion's fourth. 7/10

James Morrison (Gayle 84)

Brought on to shore things up a bit and Norwich didn't score again. 6/10
