The Baggies have endured an underwhelming start to the new campaign with an opening day defeat to Bolton followed by a draw at Nottingham Forest.

That point at the City Ground was gained thanks to an unstoppable late strike from Phillips.

But the winger believes that result can now go on to be a springboard for the rest of the season.

“The draw at Forest is something to build on – it can be a massive point for us,” Phillips said.

“They created a lot of good chances but so did we.

“It’s building blocks, it’s still early in the season. I felt we deserved something from the Bolton game.

“So it was important we got something against Forest.

“This is hopefully the start of something really good for the club.

“The players that the gaffer has brought in have settled really well.

“There is something good going on. After a disappointing campaign last year, it’s important we really go out and show what we are about.”

Phillips was pleased to see Albion sign Dwight Gayle from Newcastle. But he says everyone in the team needs to chip in with goals.

“He (Gayle) is definitely going to score goals,” he added. “But so are Jay Rodriguez and Hal (Robson-Kanu). We have got options but it’s important everyone chips in.”
