Albion boss Darren Moore has made his first big move of the summer by releasing long-serving trio Gareth McAuley, Claudio Yacob and Boaz Myhill.

All three players are free to go elsewhere after being told they will not be offered new deals at The Hawthorns.

James Morrison, whose current contract is also due to expire at the end of the month, is expected to report for pre-season training on Monday.

But Moore wants the Scot to prove his fitness before any new terms are offered.

Defender McAuley, goalkeeper Myhill and midfielder Yacob racked up nearly 500 appearances and 21 years service to club combined and Moore described them as “absolute stalwarts.”

“I would like to personally thank all three players for their loyal service to this football club and I wish them well in their respective futures,” Moore.

“They have been absolute stalwarts of this club and they should all be proud of their time here.

“It was a very difficult decision not to offer each of them a new contract and I did not take that decision lightly.

“It was, however, a decision I felt was in the best interests of the football club.”

Fans’ favourite McAuley amassed 227 appearances during a seven-year stay at The Hawthorns, scoring 17 goals.

Yacob, who joined the club in 2012, represented the Baggies on 175 occasions, netting twice.

Myhill- the longest-serving of the trio - made 82 outings following his 2010 move to Albion.

Morrison, the club’s longest-serving current player, was limited to only six appearances last season due to an Achille injury.

“James has been training tirelessly throughout the summer and will join the first-team next week,” said Moore.

“He has been frustrated by an Achilles injury for some time now but he is beginning to benefit from the endless hard work he has put in behind the scenes.

“We will be monitoring him in the coming weeks and we hope his improving fitness will result in game time in our pre-season fixtures.”
