The Clarets have ramped up their pursuit of the in-demand pair and have made official enquiries about both players.

But the Baggies have no intentions of selling two of their prized assets for so cheap, and will reject the bid.

Although the club are aware they could lose players this summer, Dawson has two years left on his contract and Rodriguez has three, leaving Albion in a strong negotiating position.

It would take a bid of more than £20m to get the Baggies to entertain the idea of selling top scorer Rodriguez, and after four years in the Premier League, Dawson is valued at around the same price.

What’s more, Burnley have been told that Rodriguez’s future is entwined with Salomon Rondon’s this summer, because his strike partner has a £16.5m relegation release clause in his contract.

Newcastle and West Ham are weighing up whether to activate it or not, but losing Rondon would harden Albion’s stance over Rodriguez even further.

The Baggies have also already lost Jonny Evans at centre-back this summer, following his £3.5m switch to Leicester, and would like to keep Dawson at the club if possible.

Darren Moore played the 28-year-old in his favoured position during his six games in charge as caretaker boss, and will try and convince him to stay. Rodriguez is also close with Moore, having played with him at Barnsley.

However, the lure of Premier League and Europa League football will prove great for both Dawson and Rodriguez.

Burnley is Rodriguez’s home-town club, and he came through the youth ranks at Turf Moor.

He still has family in the area and it’s been reported that he’d be understandably keen to rejoin the Clarets.

Burnley tried to sign him last summer when he joined Albion from Southampton for £12m but were unwilling to pay his £65,000-a-week wages.

However, Albion’s players all received a 50 per cent pay cut following relegation, allowing the Clarets to offer Rodriguez a better deal than the Baggies.

Bournemouth are also interested in Rodriguez, who enjoyed his best moments at Turf Moor under Cherries boss Eddie Howe.

Dawson has developed into a reliable Premier League defender since joining Albion from Rochdale eight years ago.

The former England under-21 international now has more than 150 top-flight appearances and can play either right-back or centre-back.

Burnley have also been weighing up a bid for winger Matt Phillips, who is wanted by former Baggies boss Tony Pulis at Middlesbrough too, but are primarily keen on Rodriguez and Dawson.
