Jurgen Klopp's strop: West Brom won a useless point

Jurgen Klopp has launched a petty rant at Albion for winning a useless point after today's 2-2 draw at The Hawthorns on a pitch he claims was too dry.

The Baggies roared back from 2-0 down in today's lunch-time kick-off with two goals in the last 11 minutes to ensure they remain unbeaten in their three meetings with Liverpool this season.

And Klopp, in an attempt to explain the two dropped points, complained about both the state of the pitch and Albion's threat from set pieces in an odd post-match sulk.

However, he did at least acknowledge that he wouldn't have mentioned the pitch if Liverpool had won.

"I think if you are the better team, you should win," said Klopp. "We are the better team, we didn't win. I don't feel that that point will help West Brom massively.

"It feels like a complete waste of points, they don’t need it, we would have needed it.

"They are all happy now, we are not happy. We stay in the league, they don't stay in the league. It's kind of a strange situation.

"I am a big football fan. You have to to do everything to create the best circumstances for all the boys to deliver.

"You let the home team decide if they water the pitch or not – it's not only football. It's also dangerous for injuries if the pitch is really dry.

"To be 100%, I would have said nothing about that probably if we had won. But it's all what you see during the game."

When Klopp's allegations about the dry pitch were put to caretaker Albion boss Darren Moore, he said: "It wasn't a ploy, it was a hot day! It was a really hot day today.

"I was so engrossed in the game and the preparation side, my focus wan't about the pitch believe it or not. We were just trying to get a team together to play against a very good Liverpool team."

Albion scored two goals from Chris Brunt set pieces to come back from 2-0 down but it was nothing less than they deserved after matching Liverpool for most of the game.

However, Klopp believes his team should have been victorious.

“I think it is like if you make it only that set-pieces are allowed in the Premier League, then West Brom for sure would not go to the Championship," he said. "They are really good in that.

"We defended it quite well over 75 minutes. It was pretty much the only situations they had. Obviously difficult defending Rondon in general and with Rodriguez around.

"The boys did really well. We scored the first one. The pitch got drier and drier and it is not in our favour or an advantage for the football-playing side.

"You could see that especially for the big chance for Danny Ings. It makes life a bit more difficult.

"Scored the second, all good so far. Couldn’t see that the boys finished the game mentally that they said, 'that's it now'.

"We knew each set-piece can be a real threat. Then it happened, the first goal after a corner, it looked similar to our first goal.

"Second goal was no foul. Plenty of free-kicks for West Brom in different situations.

"That was not a foul but it was the best position they could get for what they are strong. And then they scored the second.

"They won last week at United, full of confidence, finally accepted that they will probably play in the Championship next season.

"So the crowd was behind the team, it all makes life a little more difficult, but I thought we dealt well with it."

Klopp thought his side should have had a penalty when Craig Dawson stepped in front of Danny Ings and upended him in the box, and he also believes Ahmed Hegazi should have been sent off for punching Ings in the stomach.

“Yes we agree (on the penalty) and Hegazi on Ings, it is a red card," said Klopp.

"You see it, I see it, but that's not important. It is only important what three or four gentleman with a whistle say about it. So we cannot change."
