Jake Livermore: 'Fantastic' Jay Rodriguez is model professional

Jake Livermore believes the professionalism of ‘fantastic’ top scorer Jay Rodriguez has worked against him this season.

The in-form striker has struck 11 goals for Albion this campaign and netted three in his last four games, including last Sunday’s winner at Old Trafford.

However, he has been played in a number of positions this season, including left wing, right wing, behind the striker and up front.

Team-mate Livermore believes Rodriguez would have scored more had he been played in his natural position all campaign.

"Jay has had a fantastic season," said Livermore. "He's played out of position for large parts of it.

“Credit to him because he's a great professional, a great lad and sometimes that can work against you.

"He's done a job for the team and to come up with 11 goals in a team that has not scored a bundle is fantastic.”

Albion welcome Liverpool to The Hawthorns for the Saturday lunch-time kick-off and Rodriguez bagged a brace against Jurgen Klopp’s men at Anfield in January.

The Baggies are coming off the back of a shock 1-0 win over Manchester United and Livermore hopes they can build on that result this weekend in front of the home fans.

"We would have liked a few more pluses this year but that (winning at Old Trafford) was certainly one of them," he said.

"I'm delighted for the group of boys, it's been a difficult season, and so to come out with the three points there gives us a bit of belief to go forward.

"It was a great game to be involved in, obviously, and we just hope we can pull confidence from that and continue."
