Finally something to cheer. There has been very little to smile about this season, but Sunday’s win at Old Trafford at least gave our supporters a chance to celebrate.

Being completely realistic, it is most likely ‘too little too late’ but the effort and endeavour we showed against Manchester United gave us a glimpse of the quality we have and why we should never have found ourselves in this position.

There were many stand out performances, in particular Dawson, Rodriguez and Foster.

If we can keep hold of this core group of players, should we find ourselves in the Championship next season, we have every chance of returning to the top flight at the first attempt.

Some of the players made interesting comments after the game explaining how they ‘knew their jobs’ and were ‘working hard for the manager’.

To me personally, this clearly insinuated that perhaps this wasn’t the case under Alan Pardew and that the appointment of Darren Moore seems to have completely galvanised the club.

It’s hard to consider, but if we had parted company with Pardew just a month earlier than we did, would we have had a better chance of being in the Premier League next season?

The performances in the last two games, and the players’ comments post-match, have made it clearly evident that the squad had enough of Pulis and his approach and just didn’t take to Pardew whatsoever.

But, from these games against Swansea and Manchester United, it’s plain for all to see they have a lot of respect for Darren Moore.

I don’t think there is any doubt whatsoever that the club will definitely be looking to keep Moore on in some sort of capacity, but the question now rightly being asked after Sunday’s superb victory, has he the capability of taking on the head coach role full time?

It’s a tough one. As much as I would love to see Big Dave given a shot, the Championship is a notoriously difficult division to navigate out of.

This next head coach appointment is one of the most important appointments the club has had to make for some time and we can’t afford to get it wrong.

I really think we need to bring someone in with more experience (preferably in the Championship itself) but someone who is willing to incorporate Moore and help him progress as a coach.

I hope one day the job will be his, but I just think it’s come a little bit too soon for him.

I was sat in a bar in Dublin watching United come storming back against Man City while we limped to a 1-1 home draw versus Swansea and I honestly thought we could have lost by six or seven.

Shows you why I sit here writing and others actually make the decisions!

I don’t think it can be underestimated how vital that result was, regardless of what goes on now, and let’s face it, we’ll probably get relegated this weekend.

This result has done what no other manager or result has done this season, given us a little pride.

After watching the horror show that is the car-crash of our season, to be honest we’re all just wishing for the end to come, but the chink of light given to us is greatly received.

Without meaning to inflate the importance, it shows that given the right tactics and instructions these players can perform at the highest level.

Let’s hope that it won’t be too long before we have the chance again.

So Albion's very own phoenix is still capable of spitting a few embers out of the fire. The resilience and dogged determination at Old Trafford proved there was some fire left in the belly. So where has it been all season?

Comments from some of the players indicated they have been confused and asked to undertake strange tactics that have ultimately lead to our downfall.

Big Dave's honest and heartfelt plea has been heard by the players,a little too late one hastens to add, however, nonetheless welcomed.

So what now ? The season has been a washout and regrouping is key.

We have a handful of games to gather momentum and salvage what little pride we have left, but let's for now anyway salivate on the rewards from the Theatre of Dreams, congratulate the players for picking themselves up, and the coaching staff for having a go.T

omorrow is another day, at least today we can look back at our last match and say "we won". After this season, that's enough for me for now.
