McCarthy is undergoing surgery on his right leg today but Albion's striker will go and see him when the 27-year-old is able to receive visitors.

The Albion striker shaped to shoot in the second half of Saturday's 1-1 draw with the Toffees but McCarthy came from behind and toe-poked the ball away, meaning Rondon struck the back of his leg.

After hearing a snap, the Venezuelan immediately urged referee Stuart Atwell to stop play so medics could treat McCarthy before breaking down on the pitch.

Rondon released a message of goodwill to McCarthy on Saturday night and is now planning to visit him in hospital.

Baggies boss Alan Pardew helped console his striker on the pitch.

"I just said to him it was a complete accident," said Pardew. "That’s what I was trying to relay to him.

"Although it’s an incident that can effect you, it happens in football and it happens in life - accidents like that.

"We all have to get on with it. He didn’t have time to recover from that, but he managed to get his head together."

The incident took place during one of Rondon's most memorable performances this season.

He was arguably man of the match, and recovered from the emotional impact of McCarthy's leg break to smack the crossbar deep injury time with a long-range stunner.

"You’ve got to remember we’re getting a lot more bodies around him and it’s making him enjoy his football a little bit more," said Pardew.

"I think that’s showing in his performances. He’s fighting for everything, but things aren’t breaking for him.

"He was so unlucky that one that hit the bar didn’t go in. It would have been a contender for goal of the season. That’s how he played."
