VAR. Huh. What is it good for? We'll find out at Anfield.

The Football Association have announced that VAR will be in place for the tie, which kicks off at 7.45pm on Saturday, January 27.

It is the fourth FA Cup game to be picked for VAR use following Brighton’s match with Crystal Palace, Leicester’s tie with Fleetwood, and Chelsea’s game with Norwich on Wednesday.

The video assistant referee will be based at the Premier League Productions studio in Uxbridge and will be able to relay information to the on-field official by radio.

VAR can only be used for four instances, awarding goals, penalty decision, straight red cards and cases of mistaken identity.
