JACK ROSE

Rose has seen his game time limited, being behind number one Liam Roberts. He looked a little shaky at the start of the game but the loanee gradually grew into it. His save in the 87th minute potentially stopped Walsall from losing the game. 6

SHAY FACEY

The right-back put in a relatively solid display, but didn't get forward enough when Holden moved in-field. He also allowed Leon Legge to ghost in at the back post for Port Vale's first goal. He could have done more to stop the centre-back. 6

DAN SCARR

Scarr didn't do anything wrong for the most part, and looked solid. The ball deflected off him for the second Port Vale goal but there was little he could do. On the ball he did well with his distribution for the most part. He does need to do more in both boxes for such a big unit. 7

MAT SADLER

A decent showing from Sadler who linked up well with Pring. The ball over the top caught him out occasionally and his pace lets him down in that situation. He did deal well with Tom Pope in the second-half, however, when the big striker came on. 6

CAMERON PRING

In the first-half Pring rarely ventured forward and Port Vale had a lot of joy down his flank, but in the second-half he was much better. Ruthless in defence and exciting in attack, he linked up with McDonald and Holden and got into good areas. 7

RORY HOLDEN

This was perhaps Holden's best game in a Walsall shirt, he was terrific. In the first-half he did well on the right wing and often drifted inside, but once in his best position in behind the striker, he was brilliant. Pace, an eye for a pass, a threat on goal – he had it all. 9

LIAM KINSELLA

Kinsella offered the perfect balance to Guthrie and did all the hard work, both on the ball and by winning it back regularly. It was a good solid showing from him and he did all the basics well. His play was important to allow others to shine. 7

DANNY GUTHRIE

This was one of Guthrie's better showings in recent weeks and he ran the show throughout large periods of the game. At times in the first-half he was isolated but throughout he was able to pick the right passes to get Walsall moving up-field. 8

WES MCDONALD

Sadly it was a pretty uninspiring performance from a player who has often inspired this season. In the first-half he was largely anonymous and didn't get into the game, although in the second-half he perked up a bit and looked more dangerous. 6

JOSH GORDON

Gordon is in red-hot form at the moment and has now netted his 12th of the season. He's very quickly become one of the club's most important and consistent players. The forward is also a fan favourite and is flourishing at the moment. 8

ELIJAH ADEBAYO

This is now two nine ratings in a row for Adebayo, again he was superb. All the tools are there for a very good player and it's starting to come together. He held the ball up extremely well and got at the Port Vale defence. This time he got a goal to boot and it was well deserved. 9

SUBS: Lavery (for Gordon 76) 6, Sinclair (for Guthrie 88) N/A.

Subs not used: Roberts, Clarke, Bates, Sheron, Nolan.
