The Saddlers host non-league Darlington tomorrow desperate to end a run that has seen them lose their last six matches.

“Nobody will ever put me under more pressure than myself, nobody,” Clarke said. “It’s impossible because of the way I control my mindset.

“Pressure has got to be embraced and enjoyed otherwise don’t be a football manager.

“I’m in regular dialogue with the chairman, the board know what we’re trying to do here and that we’re working to turn it around.

“I’ve probably earned a bit more respect because I’m not a rookie manager, I’ve been there, seen it, done it.

“I’ve got four promotions on my CV in eight years as a manager. But you’re not telling me managers aren’t going to go through as spell like this, it happens. I’ve been through it and I want to get out of it as quickly as possible.”
