Chris Marsh: Let's get the Banks's bouncing

As Delia Smith famously once said: "Let's be having you!"

It's been an amazing 10 days at the Banks's Stadium.

Leigh Pomlett's takeover caught everyone by surprise. But it has completely changed the atmosphere around the club for the better.

And if that wasn't enough, the team then go and do their bit by winning at Northampton on the opening day of the campaign.

Now we have got a first home game to look forward to with Forest Green Rovers heading up to the West Midlands on Saturday.

And I want to see the Banks's Stadium bouncing just like Sixfields was last weekend.

We took 1,455 fans to Northampton and that is phenomenal support, it really is.

It will have made such a difference to the players – its an old cliché but they were the 12th man.

Now we need more of it.

I saw when Pomlett took over he said he'd love to get 6,000 fans in for the Forest Green Rovers game.

That's a big ask because, with the greatest respect to them, they are not the biggest club in the division.

But there are a lot of fans who said they would stay away while Jeff Bonser was owner and chairman.

Now though he has gone. It is a new dawn, a new era.

Pomlett is certainly doing his bit. He has put his money where his mouth is by investing in the club.

And he has already increased the playing budget and improved communication with supporters – he even bought everyone a pint at the fan focus meeting!

He has shown his willingness to take the club forward. And now he needs supporters to do there bit by coming to the games.

If you are a Walsall fan who has stayed away, I honestly can't see why you wouldn't come back.

Jeff is gone, we have won our first game, confidence is sky-high. And the atmosphere around the club is great.

So as Delia said: "Let's be having you!"

She did well to get the words out having enjoyed more than a few drinks that evening.

In my heyday there is no way I would have completed the sentence!

But I'm as sober as a judge now after one or two health problems.

So I will say it because I want this positivity to continue.

I actually went to see my mum and dad on Monday and I was listening to the football phone-in on BBC WM on my home.

People were calling in to predict where their team would finish.

We had one Walsall fan saying fourth, one was adamant they'd be in the play-offs. And another caller I heard had us as champions.

It's amazing the effect one result can have.

But that just shows the positivity that comes with getting off to a good start.

And it was a good start. It's not easy to win on the opening day. It's even harder to do it away from home.

But Walsall got the job done and they did it with a clean sheet as well.

It feels as though everything is pointing in the right direction at the minute.

So let's get the fans in the stadium for Forest Green. If we win that match it's only then a short trip up the road to Crewe.

Let's keep this feel-good factor going because Walsall's fans deserve a successful year. They deserve a winning team.

And they have got a huge role to play in making that happen.
