The winger first came through the youth ranks at Fulham but left London to join Blues in 2015.

McDonald was released by the Championship side last season and was snapped up by Yeovil on a six-month contract following a successful trial.

After impressing in 12 outings, The Glovers opened negotiations to keep the 22-year-old at Huish Park.

But a hamstring injury sidelined him for a large chunk of the second-half of the season.

Now though the winger is determined to make up for lost time having not played competitive football in seven months.

"I’m delighted to be a Walsall player, it’s a great club and I'm really looking forward to the season starting and being able to show people what I can do," McDonald said.

"This time last year I signed for Yeovil for six-months and I did pretty well.

"I injured my hamstring in January but now I am fully fit and raring to go.

"It's great to have got a pre-season under my belt. It's a great bunch of lads here so I've enjoyed it.

"But I just can’t wait for the season now and to get going."

McDonald almost netted his first Walsall goal in Poland when he rattled the crossbar in the friendly against Odra Opole.

And he is confident he will soon be finding the target.

"I have come here to create chances and score goals," the 22-year-old continued.

"I’m a creative player who wants to be getting assists and getting on the score sheet myself.

"I almost scored against Odra Opole in Poland. I hit the bar, luck wasn’t with me.

"But I’m sure those goals will come soon, hopefully, it will come at Northampton on the opening day."

Walsall returned from their pre-season trip to Poland on Thursday.

They continue their preparations for the new season today by taking on Notts County in a friendly at Meadow Lane.
