Four goalkeepers who could do a job for Walsall
Manager Darrell Clarke is currently working on a major rebuilding job at Walsall. And with Liam Roberts the only keeper presently on the books, the boss has to sign a new glovesman to challenge for the number one spot this summer.
Here, Joseph Masi looks at four men who could fill the slot.
Frank Fielding
It would be a major coup if the Saddlers could land the 31-year-old following his release from Bristol City.
Fielding endured a nightmare season last year in which he contracted viral meningitis. He then returned only to dislocate his thumb.
But while he played just seven games, he remains a firm fan favourite at Ashton Gate. Fielding previously won promotion from League Two with Rochdale.
He was also part of the Bristol City that won League One in 2015. That CV though means he is sure to have plenty of admirers.
Jayson Leutwiler
The Canadian international is a free agent after leaving Blackburn Rovers.
Now 30-years-old, Leutwiler has spent the last few years as understudy at Ewood Park to David Raya.
But he previously won promotion from League Two with Shrewsbury back in 2015.
That season he kept 23 clean sheets in all competitions – a club record.
And he could now be tempted by a move back to the West Midlands if he has a genuine shot at playing every week.
Harry Burgoyne
The Wolves youngster looks set to leave Molineux this summer either on loan or permanently.
Burgoyne would have been playing in League One last season with Plymouth had it not been for an ankle injury. That saw him return to Wolves and he then loaned to Scottish Championship side Falkirk.
At 22-years-old he needs to be playing regularly but is down the pecking order at Molineux.
Adam Smith
Clarke has already raided former club Bristol Rovers for Stuart Sinclair and James Clarke this summer.
And he may also be tempted to team up once again with Smith. The 26-year-old played the majority of his first team football for Northampton before moving to Rovers in July 2017.
In his first season at the Pirates, he battled with Sam Slocombe to be number one and played 26 times.
But he made just 10 appearances last season following the arrival of Jack Bonham on loan.
Already linked with Barnsley and Forest Green this summer, Smith won a lot of praise from former Cobblers boss Chris Wilder during his time at Northampton.
Slocombe though could also be a target with the keeping having previously won promotion from League Two with Scunthorpe and Blackpool.
