In what will be Dean Keates' first full season in charge, The Pilgrims visit the Banks's Stadium on August 4.

That is followed by an away clash at Scunthorpe on August 11, before Walsall then return to the Banks's to face Gillingham on August 18.

The opening month then closes with back-to-back away games. Keates's side travel to face AFC Wimbledon on August 21 before then heading to Rochdale on August 25.

One of the most tantalising fixtures of the season sees Walsall end the campaign with a final day trip to rivals Shrewsbury.

The Shropshire side narrowly missed out on promotion last season and beat the Saddlers in the derby at the Montgomery Waters Meadow.

But following the departure of Paul Hurst to Ipswich, Walsall's fans will be desperate to get revenge on their fierce rivals.

The first meeting with Shrewsbury takes place on October 2.

Like last season, Walsall will host Bristol Rovers at home on Boxing Day.

And on New Year's Day supporters can enjoy a trip to the Capital with Charlton the opposition at The Valley.

Other notable fixtures include a home clash with promotion favourites Sunderland on November 24.

The Saddlers will then travel to take on the Black Cats at the Stadium of Light on March 16.

Walsall also face promoted Accrington Stanley at the Banks's on September 29 and away on April 13.

Local-ish derbies with Coventry take place on December 8 (h) and February 16 (a).

Walsall fans will also be hoping to get revenge on recently relegated Barnsley who beat them in the play-offs during the 2015/16 season.

Keates's men face the Tykes at Oakwell on September 8 before then hosting them in the West Midlands on March 23.
