Dobson was involved in the most pivotal moment of the season, netting a late-winner against Northampton last month which effectively preserved Saddlers’ League One status.

Chambers believes that ensures the 20-year-old is guaranteed to be enshrined in club folklore, though he is backing the West Ham academy product to create many more happy memories for supporters in the years to come.

Dobson, who spent the entire 2016/17 campaign on loan at the Banks’s from the Hammers, made 21 appearances alongside Chambers after rejoining on a permanent deal from Sparta Rotterdam in January.

Veteran Chambers said: “George has done really well since he came back to the club, he has been a real driving force for us. He has been getting in the box, driving forward and committing players.

“He has come on a long way. And the goal against Northampton makes him a legend at the club. I still can’t forget the celebrations.

“I was delighted for him. He works really hard. I think he is going to be a big player for us over the next few years.”

Dobson’s goal, which earned the Saddlers a 1-0 win, was named the club’s goal of the season.

The strike gave Dean Keates’s men vital breathing space over the relegation zone and meant they were able to secure safety in the next match, a 1-1 draw at Bradford.

They eventually finished the season in 19th place, two points clear of the bottom four.
