Walsall reunite heroes from famed FA Cup run

Heroes from one of Walsall's finest FA Cup teams made a return to the club at the weekend.

Alan Birch, Roger Fry, George Andrews, Nick Atthey and Colin Harrison were presented to the crowd at half-time during Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Port Vale.

The five were key players when the Saddlers reached the fifth round of the competition 1975.

They famous beating Manchester United and Newcastle United along the way before being narrowly defeated 1-0 by Birmingham City in front of 44,000 fans at St Andrews.

Andrews netted the only goal in the fourth round win over Newcastle and Saturday's was to mark the 40th anniversary of the run.

Steve Davies, the secretary of the Former Players Association, said: "It was great to see some of those players back together."

Fry and Atthey were presented with certificates of achievement by the FPA.
