STAFFORD Rangers survived a late penalty scare as they earned a point from a 1-1 draw at Morpeth Town.

The Boro took a 10th minute lead after Joe Berks fired his low shot across the goalkeeper and into the bottom corner.

Rangers then had an opportunity to double their lead with Jake Charles attempting an overhead kick before Alex Harvey forced the home goalkeeper into a smart save.

At the opposite end Lewis King was on hand to deny Chris Reid’s effort at goal. The equaliser came a minute before the break with Wayne Phillips crashing home after a free-kick which was pulled back for him.

Rangers should have regained the lead on the 58th when Robert Thompson-Brown was left unmarked in the box but saw his effort saved.

At the other end Morpeth remained just as likely to net a winner and Ged Davies cut inside before seeing his shot whistle just wide.

And then in the fourth minute of injury time Jack Foalle was brought down by King, but the Rangers shot stopper was equal to the penalty attempt.

Five minutes later Thompson-Brown almost stole the point for the Boro but fired wide.
