Stafford-born Thorley played at Marston Road in the 2008-2009 season and lives in Stone.

Thorley said: “I am delighted to be re-joining Stafford Rangers.

“The time was right for a new challenge for me and so it is exciting to be joining my local club who are entering a new era themselves.

"After discussions in recent weeks, Steve Pryce made me aware of Stafford’s interest and upon meeting up with (boss) Steve Burr, I had made my mind up that Rangers is where I wanted to be.

“I am now looking forward to helping the club push for honours and can’t wait to get started in pre-season.”

Thorley played more than 200 games for the Pitmen after first signing for the club in November 2013.

Despite leaving at the end of the 2014/15 season, he returned ahead of the new campaign.

Thorley was with Stoke City as a junior and has also played for Worcester City and had a short stay at AFC Telford.

A Hednesford statement read: “Everyone at Keys Park would like to thank Tom for his commitment over the course of the best part of five years and wish him well.”

Rangers have also signed former Stoke youngster Sam Coulson.
