The former Hednesford Town and Solihull Moors boss guided the Pics to eighth place and the Walsall Senior Cup last season, despite taking over in October with them in relegation battle.

And McDonald – along with his coaching team of Nick Green, David Bridgwater and Trevor Burroughs – is happy to be staying.

“I am delighted that we have been able to get things sorted for my coaching staff and I to be here next season,” he said. “Now we can focus on continuing the progression and taking this club forward.

“It’s been a pleasure to work here; it’s such a family-orientated club.”

Allen added: “This is a real statement of intent from the club and we are excited by what the future holds in store.”
