Making the announcement on Talksport, the 35-year-old confirmed the end of his career after being released by Aston Villa in the summer of 2019.

Hutton played 185 times for Villa over seven years, scoring three times, including an incredible solo goal against rivals Birmingham City.

The Scot played in the 2015 FA Cup final, which Villa lost 4-0 to Arsenal, before being relegated with the club the following season, spending three seasons in the Championship.

At international level, Hutton made 50 appearances for Scotland, with his international debut coming against Austria in May 2007 after coming on as a substitute.

On his future, Hutton told Talksport that he is still undecided on what he wants to do next.

''I don't fancy coaching if im honest,'' he said.

''I'm going to take my time deciding, I'm enjoying the family side of things, even if it does mean I'm a taxi service.''
