Tyrone Mings calls on Aston Villa to start delivering 90-minute performances

Tyrone Mings admits Villa must start delivering 90-minute performances as attentions turn to Tuesday’s six-pointer with fellow Premier League strugglers Watford.

Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Brighton saw Villa remain in the relegation zone but they are just a place and a point behind the Hornets.

Jack Grealish hammered his seventh league goal of the campaign as Dean Smith’s team, who had trailed to Leandro Trossard’s opener, were rewarded for a much-improved second half performance at the Amex Stadium.

But while Mings saw positives in the display, he acknowledged Villa need to be on their game from the first whistle.

“We have a great group here but consistency is going to be the biggest thing between now and the end of the season,” he said.

“We can’t have a first-half where we are so passive. We have to go and impose ourselves on teams and be the team we want to be right from the kick-off, rather than getting a response at half-time.

“I think we showed belief to get back into the game. At least we have another point to go into the next game.”

Villa are close to ending their striker search with the capture of Tanzania international Mbwana Samatta from Genk.

But Mings claims the onus must be on players already in the team to deliver, rather than hoping for someone to come in and save the season.

“We know we have enough quality to get out of trouble but there are a lot of teams with quality that get relegated,” he said.

“We need to show the togetherness we showed in the second half and show we are all pulling in the right direction.

“Maybe with a couple of additions in January we can look to push on after that.

“But saying that, we have a lot of quality in the squad at the moment and we will look at what we can do from the inside out, before we look at bringing in someone who is going to save our season. We will work with what we have got for now.”
