Here's how they've got on in the last five meetings between the sides.

Aston Villa 3 Sheffield United 3 - February 8, 2019

Who can forget this instant classic?

The last time these two sides met it seemed like it was a canter for the Blades, who sliced Villa open seemingly at will on their way to a 3-0 lead, which was still intact 81 minutes in.

With Villa Park emptying, the most unlikely turnaround was triggered by Tyrone Mings who looked to have grabbed a consolation with his header, only for Tammy Abraham to provide real belief at B6 with his finish following Dean Henderson's fumble just four minutes from time.

Sheffield United, previously purring thanks to Billy Sharp's hat-trick, were clinging on in added time, only for Andre Green to complete the comeback in the 94th minute as he headed home John McGinn's cross.

An absolutely stunning game, and one which will live in the memory for fans who decided to stick around.

Sheffield United 4 Aston Villa 1 - September 1, 2018

There was to be no spirited comeback from Villa at Bramall Lane back in September 2018 - as the Blades ran riot against Steve Bruce's side.

Villa found themselves a goal down in just six minutes through Jack O'Connell, only for Mark Duffy and Oliver Norwood to make it 3-0 by half time.

Billy Sharp ensured Villa were leaving Bramall Lane with no points to show from it four minutes after half time - although Anwar El Ghazi did nab a goal on the hour mark which was purely a consolation.

Bruce said it was arguably the worst result he'd faced as Villa boss, and labelled his side 'awful'.

The result was Villa's worst since their relegation to the Championship. A similar scoreline this weekend wouldn't be welcomed.

Sheffield United 0 Aston Villa 1 - January 30, 2018

It was something of a smash and grab for Villa in January 2018, after Sheffield United were made to pay for missing numerous chances by Robert Snodgrass after his brilliant strike earned his side all three points.

The Blades dominated the first 45 minutes, and saw Jack O'Connell hit the bar with his early header, whilst Sam Johnstone performed heroics in goal to keep the scores level come half time.

Villa were brighter in the second half, but it took until the 90th minute for Snodgrass to break the deadlock - curling home brilliantly to snatch all three points.

The result lifted the Villans to third in the Championship at the time, one point off the automatic promotion spot which eventually went to Cardiff.

More late drama like this would certainly please the travelling fans this season.

Aston Villa 2 Sheffield United 2 - December 23, 2017

Talk about your fast starts. This encounter between Villa and the Blades was worth getting to on time, with all of the goals coming in the first 26 minutes.

Richard Stearman bundled Keinan Davis over less than five minutes in to give the Villans a chance to open the scoring from the spot, a chance willingly taken by Albert Adomah.

The hosts looked to be on their way to three points a matter of minutes later too, after Mile Jedinak powered home a header off a Robert Snodgrass free kick - but the Blades would come back.

A double from former Blues striker Clayton Donaldson pegged Villa back - with the striker capitalising on two defensive lapses from Jedinak, playing at centre back, in the first half.

Both sides pushed for a winner, with Leon Clarke coming closest with his low header, but the honours ended even.

Aston Villa 1 Sheffield United 2 - January 4, 2014

You need to go back to 2014 to find our last meeting between the sides - this time in the FA Cup third round, as Sheffield United upset the odds to knock Villa out despite being in the thick of a relegation battle in League One.

Jamie Murphy got the game going with his deflected strike beating Jed Steer between the sticks 20 minutes in - only for Nicklas Helenius to level things up with 15 minutes remaining in the game.

Ryan Flynn ensured the Blades would take the scalp of Villa though, after his brilliant goal sealed the deal for United nine minutes from time.

Then Villa manager Paul Lambert had come out saying that top flight bosses could do without the FA Cup before the game - the result ensured he didn't need to face a fourth round tie.
