The French full-back has enjoyed an impressive start to life in the Premier League since completing a permanent £4.5million move from Caen during the summer.

Guilbert claims the work of former England captain Terry, who takes the lead in coaching the club’s defenders, has helped his game.

He said: “Of course I knew John Terry, not personally but now I can say yes. When you have a coach like him, when he speaks to you, you just listen and do what he is telling you.

“I speak to him a lot because he was a great defender. He is good to speak with. We have really good staff and quality coaches, so I am happy.”

Former France under-21 international Guilbert hopes playing in the Premier League might one day earn him a senior international call but added: “I know my situation, I know my level, I know my quality. I know there are a lot of good players.”
