Reports this week have claimed Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson is demanding the EFL investigate the financial conduct of Villa, Derby and Sheffield Wednesday, over what he believes are breaches of the P&S regulations.

Gibson has arranged a special meeting of all Championship clubs for next week.

But Villa, who have consistently maintained they expect to comply with the rules, remain relaxed about the situation.

Asked about this week’s reports on Wednesday, Smith replied: “Is there anything for us to be concerned about? I don’t believe so.

“I haven’t seen any quotes attributed to the chairman who’s meant to have said it.

“It’s out of my remit, but my chief executive says that we are fully compliant.”

Bristol City have, meanwhile, been charged by the FA for failing to control their players during last Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Villa.

The charge relates to an incident in the 53rd minute of the match, when visiting players surrounded referee Scott Duncan after he awarded Villa the penalty from which Tammy Abraham opened the scoring. Bristol City have until Tuesday, April 23 to respond.
