Aston Villa willing to listen to offers for Mile Jedinak

The 33-year-old is one of the highest paid players at the club and is reportedly on a whopping £50,000-a-week contract that still has one year left to run.

Jedinak has not yet returned for pre-season after captaining Australia in the World Cup, and now his future is in doubt along with a number of other players.

There has been some suggestion Jedinak could be converted into a defender next season to help plug the gap left by John Terry.

James Chester’s future is also up in the air after boss Steve Bruce admitted the club might need to cash in on their reliable centre-back.

However, Chester is preparing for the season ahead as usual, and he’s hinted he wants to stay Villa for the long-term.

“As a youngster, the players who are at a club for a long time are the ones who you look up to,” he said. “I’ve always wanted to spend time at a club and hopefully that will continue.

“Regardless of what’s happening at the moment, as professionals you owe it to yourselves, your teammates and the supporters to do your best.

“My message to the fans is to try and stay positive. They’re the most loyal people involved with the club and they will be there through thick and thin.

“In my time at the club they’ve been a credit to themselves. They travel in great numbers.

“Hopefully they’ll continue to do that. We’ve not achieved our goal yet and we’ll carry on trying.”
