Blades boss Chris Wilder has confirmed his interest in the 26-year-old who Villa signed for £12m from Brentford 18 months ago.

Wilder hinted that Villa’s Championship rivals had made a bid for Hogan, and it’s believed they are planning to continue negotiations over the next fortnight with a view to completing a deal..

“We’ve got two or three bids in for players, players who make us better,” Wilder told the Sheffield Star.

“Players of proven Championship experience and above, they take longer to get in because the numbers are greater and the interest is greater.”

When asked specifically about Hogan, Wilder said: “Are we in for players who have played at the top end of the Championship? Yes we are. It’s not a revolution, it’s evolution.

“We want to our good players to see other good players come into the building. I’m sure, over the next few weeks, you’ll see it really ramp up.”

It’s believed Villa still owe Brentford a chunk of the £12m they bought Hogan for in January 2017.

With more wage bills looming, Villa need to cash in on their players after owner Tony Xia confirmed the club were not for sale.
