Steve Bruce wants a big response from Aston Villa

Boss Steve Bruce has called on Villa to get their season back on track when they host Fulham tomorrow.

Last Saturday’s 2-0 derby defeat at Wolves halted Villa’s surge up the Championship table, but they still remain seventh, just one point outside the play-offs.

And Bruce is refusing to get too downhearted after this week reminding his players there is still plenty of time to put things right.

“Let’s respond in the right way this weekend,” he said. “We can go on a run again. There is still a long way to go and a long winter ahead. It’s all still to play for.”

Tomorrow’s match at Villa Park is the latest in a testing few weeks for Bruce’s men, which sees them take on several other teams with promotion aspirations and includes a Second City derby at Blues.

Fulham, beaten by Reading in the play-off semi-finals last season, sit two places and one point behind them in the table and are on a four-game unbeaten run.

Bruce was today expected to provide an update on the fitness of Mile Jedinak as the midfielder continues his recovery from injury.

Jedinak, one of Villa’s top performers last season, has played just 45 minutes this season after undergoing surgery on a long-standing groin injury during the summer.

Henri Lansbury (knee) is back in contention after another week of training, while Jack Grealish made his return from a kidney problem when he played for the under-23s earlier this week.
