Villa go to the Madejski Stadium with the manager demanding a reaction from his team as they look to quickly bounce back from Saturday’s 3-0 humbling at Cardiff City.

Conor Hourihane, James Bree and Birkir Bjarnason could all come into the starting line-up as Bruce continues to search for a winning formula on the road.

“We go to work again. In the Championship the games come around thick and fast. It will always be a difficult game,” said the boss.

“We have to perform to a level far better than we have performed on Saturday. I haven’t got a load of options so I’ll see what I’ve got. We will be better at Reading because we can’t be any worse than that. We need to get it out of our system.”

Bruce will be without Ahmed Elmohamady after the winger suffered a mouth injury against Cardiff, while winger Andre Green (groin) could again miss out. Villa’s second round Carabao Cup tie at home to Wigan has been confirmed for next Tuesday, with a 7.45pm kick-off.
