LETTER: Save our woodlands amid Saltwells Nature Reserve campaign

Published
Campaigners have mounted a Save Our Saltwells campaign

Saltwells Nature Reserve is surely one of Dudley’s best assets?

It must be one of the finest bluebell woods in the country.

It’s a green oasis in a heavily built-up area and has been loved and enjoyed by generations of local people and visitors.

The woodland was planted in the 18th century to hide the scars of coal mining. It’s part of our industrial heritage and I’m proud of it.

Planning proposals have been submitted to build nine luxury four to five-bedroom houses in the woods, the purpose of which, the developers say, ‘is intended to serve the local community and bring investment and interest in the area’.

I wonder if the local community feels this development will serve them?
