The RNLI reacted quickly to rescue a man who was struggling in the River Thames, pulling off the feat underneath Woolwich Pier.

The crew at Tower station was alerted to the plight of a man heard screaming.

On arrival they found a man struggling to keep his ahead above water underneath the structure. With the pier limiting the vessel’s room to manoeuvre, a crewman jumped in and, with the help of a tether, managed to bring the man to safety.
