Woman’s body found in house after missing person search

Police had been searching for Caroline McCafferty from Irvine, who was last seen in the town centre on October 29.

Police searching for a vulnerable woman missing for several days have found a body in a house.

Caroline McCafferty was last seen at around 1pm on Monday October 29 near the Rivergate Shopping Centre in Irvine town centre.

The 31-year-old, from Irvine, was reported missing to police on Thursday November 1.

Police said a woman’s body was found in a house in Parterre in the North Ayrshire town at around  8.50pm on Monday, with the death being treated as unexplained.

Formal identification has still to take place but Ms  McCafferty’s family has been told of the discovery.

A post-mortem examination will take place in due course to establish the exact cause of death.

In the meantime, police are treating the death as unexplained and investigations are continuing.

A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.
