The chaos ensued after the animal, believed to have escaped from an abattoir, was spotted by a member of the public in Stratford Road, Sparkhill at around 7.40am yesterday.

After officers received a 999 call about the animal, they cordoned off the road and worked with abattoir staff to catch the bull.

A police car was damaged when the bull 'came into contact' with the vehicle. No one was hurt.

A spokesman from West Midlands Police said: "We received a 999 call from a member of the public just before 7.40am reporting a bull on the loose in Stratford Road.

"It’s believed the bull escaped from a nearby abattoir.

"Response units were deployed to the scene and set up a cordon and closed the road.

"Officers worked with abattoir staff to guide the bull back into a van before it was taken away. No-one was injured. One police car suffered minor damage."

The bull was captured by 8.15am.
