Emergency services were called to the scene in Wombourne shortly after 9am.

An air ambulance was sent to the crash at the roundabout where the A449 Stourbridge Road meets the A463 at Billy Buns Lane, but the man was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital by land ambulance.

The road towards Wolverhampton was shut in the aftermath of the collision and remained closed until shortly after 1pm.

A second minor collision also took place on the southbound carriageway, which police said was caused by a driver "rubbernecking".

Staffordshire Police advised drivers to avoid the road whilst they dealt with the incident.

A spokesman for the West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 9.09am to a junction of the A449 and the A463.

"We were called to reports of a collision between a car and a motorbike.

"We treated one patient, the motorcyclist, a man, for very serious injuries.

"He has received specialist treatment care at the scene before being taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital by land ambulance.

"We also had a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford attended."

Staffordshire Police has been contacted for further comment.
