‘Pandemonium’ in Bridgnorth due to roadworks

The knock-on effect from the work on the bypass, as well as additional work in other areas of the town, meant there was bumper to bumper traffic through Bridgnorth as commuters and shoppers tried to get into town.

Advertisement supervisor Glyn Law said that it had taken nearly 30 minutes more than normal to get to his office in Bridgnorth today.

“It’s been absolute pandemonium,” he said. “They’re already doing something on the Brignorth Bypass, but they’ve also got roadworks and traffic lights outside Sainsbury’s, which backlogs through the town.

“This morning I didn’t get back into the office until 9.20am. It was bumper to bumper. When you finally get over the bridge, they’ve now put a stop sign up outside Jewsons. Once you’re through that, which was causing problems of its own, then you’ve got to get past the lights by Sainsbury’s.

“People were just sitting there. They didn’t know what to do. For such a small town with such intertwining little roads, it’s been a catastrophe.”

It is expected that the original programme of works should finish by November 10.

However, the surface of the Stourbridge Road roundabout has deteriorated significantly more than anticipated and that it will now need to be resurfaced.

It is planned that a series of two consecutive night time, and two consecutive 24-hour road closures are put in place preventing access and egress from the Old Stourbridge Road, and the Old Worcester Road onto the roundabout to allow for these works to take place.
