Plans have been submitted to convert part of TC Hayes electrical store, on Bearwood Road, into the Mexican eatery which, if opened, would create at least six jobs.

In the application, agents R Sharples and Associates said it would be a family-run business owned by Mexican nationals.

They added that there would be no major works at the property apart from a partition to separate the restaurant from the rest of the shop and alterations to the kitchen and customer toilets.

The applicants also said it would be a small operation focused mainly on takeaways, with just five or six tables for diners in the unit.

Proposed opening hours are 10am to 9pm on Mondays to Thursday and 10am to 11pm on Friday, Saturday and Sundays.

The application said: “The proposal is to change the use of the ground floor from electrical retail to a Mexican restaurant.

“The area of the existing unit has been used in the last several months for dress making and clothing alterations but has had no physical separation from the sales floor.

“There is no accommodation above the unit. A new kitchen area and a disabled toilet area is to be created with the existing unit.

“There is to be a one hour rated fire partition separating the existing retail from the new restaurant.

“The food will be prepared on site freshly and daily by Mexican nationals. This is to be a family-run business by local people.

“We expect to have at least four full-time staff and up to two part-time staff, excluding three family members under 18 still in education.”
