Taxi driver Muhammad Nasim has been chosen as Labour's candidate for Penn in May's Wolverhampton Council elections.

He previously ran unsuccessfully for the Tettenhall Regis seat in 2014, and was a member of the city's Tory party prior to that.

Mr Nasim, who was backed by Eleanor Smith MP and former MP Rob Marris at his campaign launch, said: "If elected on 2nd May 2019 I will work hard to represent and support residents in Penn.

"I will work hard to protect services for the most vulnerable and promote prosperity across Penn and Wolverhampton.

"As the founder and former chairman and secretary of the Wolverhampton Hackney Carriage Drivers Association (WHCDA), I have always put public safety first, and have always stood up for working people."

Mr Nasim will challenge Conservative incumbent Councillor Paul Singh for the seat he has held for the last 11 years.
