Speaking in the Commons, the Wolverhampton North East MP demanded that a scheme was set up next year 'at the latest' to compensate people such as her constituent Paulette Wilson, who was wrongly detained and threatened with deportation despite living in the UK for 50 years.

Mrs Wilson was released at the 11th hour following the intervention of Ms Reynolds and Wolverhampton’s Refugee and Migrant Centre. She has since received an apology from the Prime Minister over her treatment.

Ms Reynolds had branded the treatment of the Windrush generation 'a national disgrace' and has called for the Government to make 'urgent amends'.

“All members of the Windrush generation who have been treated in the most appalling way deserve to be compensated by the Government," the Labour MP said.

"I called on the Immigration Minister [Caroline Nokes] to ensure that the compensation scheme is set up at the latest next year.

"Unfortunately there was no clear answer about the timing of the scheme’s introduction.

"I will be responding to the Government’s consultation on the scheme and will keep up the pressure on the Government to get the scheme up and running as soon as possible.”

Ms Nokes has confirmed that the families of three wrongly deported Windrush victims who died before UK officials were able to repatriate them will be able to claim compensation.
