The rally-inspired concept features a range of upgrades

Honda has taken the covers off two dynamic Civic Type R concepts.

The first, created by Team Dynamics Motorsport, has been designed to ‘showcase the potential of the Civic Type R’. It incorporates a range of modifications, including a new induction system, intercooler and exhaust – as well as a refresh of the car’s ECU.

It has resulted in a 25 per cent boost in performance, lifting power to 400bhp from the standard car’s 315bhp. Torque is also up from 400Nm to 500Nm.

To help ensure the car successfully applies this added performance to the road, the Type R has been fitted with Eibach Pro performance suspension springs, adjustable anti rolls bars and Dunlop DZ03G track day tyres too. Meanwhile, stainless performance braided brake hoses improve stopping power.

The second concept, built by Ralph Hosier Engineering, takes things in a different direction. It’s been lifted by four inches and fitted with mud-plugging tyres to give it better capability on rough terrain.

A bespoke trailing arm has been fitted at the rear, as well as modified transverse links to help lift the car three inches higher than standards – the chunky rubber makes up the other inch of height.

The tyres, which are BF Goodrich units, are wrapped around lightweight rally-derived wheels.

Both cars carry over the same powertrain and gearbox as the one you’ll find in the regular Type R, and though there are no current plans to put them into production, both Team Dynamics and Ralph Hosier Engineering have said that they will create one-off versions ‘for discerning customers’.
