The new Fisker SUV has a claimed all-electric range of 300 miles

Fisker has revealed a new all-electric SUV, the first of three mass-market vehicles due to be launched by the manufacturer.

Though just a concept at this point, Fisker claims that a driveable prototype will be unveiled by the end of the year, followed by a production model in 2021.

Due to be priced ‘below $40,000’ (£30,220), the as-yet unnamed vehicle will feature an ‘extended open-air atmosphere’ activated via the touch of the button. This could mean that the car will have a large, panoramic sunroof to allow more visibility of the outside world.

Henrik Fisker, chairman and CEO, said: “Our team set out on a mission to create an affordable EV that’s more exciting and emotion-stirring than what the market has been offering. We’re now excited to be introducing a vehicle that truly reinvents the SUV.

“At an affordable price point, starting below $40,000, we’re delivering a desirable, luxuriously rugged and green vehicle – complete with unique new experiences and technologies – that’s accessible to people across the USA and the world.”

The car will be driven by an 80kWh lithium-ion battery pack, and will be available with four-wheel drive powered by two electric motors – one at the front of the car, and one at the rear. Fisker claims that it’ll be able to travel ‘approximately 300 miles’ on a single charge.

The manufacturer is also in the process of a selecting a production facility in America, where the SUV will be produced.

More detailed information regarding the powertrain, as well as more in-depth pricing are due to be revealed at the end of the year.
