Ford Mustang Bullitt takes on iconic TT road

Racing driver-turned-journalist Steve Sutcliffe gets behind wheel of film-inspired muscle car for ‘incredible’ drive on famous Isle of Man road

The Isle of Man is famously associated with the iconic TT race – but Ford has taken its latest muscle car to prove the island’s iconic roads can be just as fun on four wheels.

The American firm sent a Mustang Bullitt with former racing driver Steve Sutcliffe – now a journalist – behind the wheel along the famous Mountain Road, which he describes as ‘the most incredible section’ of the 37.73-mile Isle of Man TT course.

The 13.35-mile road, which stretches across Snaefell, could be seen as a petrolhead’s dream, as it isn’t restricted by speed limits, although laws are in place against careless and dangerous driving.

Showcasing both the potential of the Mountain Road and performance capabilities of the Mustang Bullitt in the video, Sutcliffe claims the road to be ‘unlike anywhere else’. He says: “Imagine German autobahns, then add hills and twists, and shrink it to a single carriageway with incredible views, and what you have are these utterly fantastic and dramatic roads.”

Ford introduced the Mustang Bullitt as a tribute to the 1968 Steve McQueen thriller film Bullitt, to celebrate its 50th anniversary. McQueen played Frank Bullitt, a police lieutenant, who drives a now-iconic ‘Highland Green’ Mustang GT. The new Mustang Bullitt is available to order now, with prices starting from £47,575.
